In early September, Jordan announced that it is to start conscripting 25 to 29-year olds for one year’s military service in an attempt to tackle unemployment. Jordan has experienced its sharpest economic contraction in two decades, with the economy shrinking by 3.6% in the second quarter of the year. Covid-19 has ravaged the economy. The Jordan Economic Forum predicts that unemployment will reach 35% by the end of 2020. Unemployment has been stable at just below 20% for the last three years
