ALBAWABA- United Arab Emirates mourns the loss of Sheikh Tahnoon bin Mohammed, the Ruler's Representative in the Al Ain Region, who passed away at the age of 82 on Wednesday, May 1st.

The Presidential Court has declared an official mourning period of seven days, starting from Wednesday, May 1, until Thursday, May 7, with flags flown at half-mast across the country.

Sheikh Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan was the brother-in-law of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, married to his sister, Sheikha Hessa. 

He was a trusted confidant of Sheikh Zayed, gaining invaluable experience and knowledge from the UAE Founding Father.

Sheikh Tahnoon played a pivotal role in the establishment of the United Arab Emirates, working closely with Sheikh Zayed on the sincere efforts that led to the declaration of the Union on December 2, 1971.

Throughout his  career, Sheikh Tahnoon served as deputy chairman of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi, as well as holding positions in the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and the 

Supreme Petroleum Council.
