The White House on Friday said that upcoming talks between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will not take place without concrete actions by Pyongyang.
Asked whether the North Korean leader is serious about his commitment to denuclearization, White House Spokesperson Sarah Sanders said, "the president will not have the meeting without seeing concrete steps and concrete actions take place by North Korea."
She also says the maximum pressure campaign against the North Korean regime has been successful.
"North Korea promised to denuclearize, they've promised to stop nuclear-missile testing, and they've recognized that we're going to continue in our military exercises," Sanders told reporters in Washington, referring to upcoming joint military exercises between the U.S. and South Korea at the end of the month.
This comes after the announcement late Thursday that Trump would accepted an invitation for face-to-face talks with Kim. The meeting would be the first of its kind between a leader of North Korea and a sitting U.S. president.
