ALBAWABA - As the knife-edge election has kicked off across all 50 US states, many are predicting a surprising scenario, what if Donald Trump and Kamala Harris get a tie?
Millions of Americans have headed to the polls to cast their ballots in the 2024 US presidential elections. Former US President Donald Trump, the candidate for the Republican party, is facing Kamala Harris, the candidate of the Democratic party.
Swing states; Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Nevada, Michigan, Georgia and Arizona, could change the course in the US elections.

But in case of a tie in the presidential elections, what will happen?
Despite being a low-key scenario, what if neither candidate reaches the required 270 or what if they hit a tie at 269-269?
If neither candidate reaches 270, the US Constitution is responsible for determining the next steps. Furthermore, The US Congress is then able to pick the next president and vice president, US media reported earlier.
In case of a tie, a contingent election is expected to take place to decide the winner in the elections.
A contingent election means that the House of Representatives in the US decides the winner as each state’s delegation in the House casts one vote, and whoever gets more votes, wins.
Meanwhile, the US Senate is then responsible for electing the Vice President.
