ALBAWABA - British Home Secretary Suella Braverman said that Waving a Palestinian flag on British streets 'may not be legitimate.
In a letter to chief constables in England and Wales, Braverman urged the police to put a stop to any attempts to harass or intimidate members of the Jewish community by using Palestinian flags, songs, or swastikas, as people around the world protest in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
"Unrest in the Middle East has previously been used "as a pretext to stir up hatred against British Jews, and there is an obvious risk this pattern will be repeated during the current conflict".
In the letter, Braverman stated that police should not limit their investigations to suspected crimes relating to the propagation of Hamas, a banned organization, but also it should be extended to any acts that might be of any concern to the Jewish community.
“I would encourage police to give similar consideration to the presence of symbols such as swastikas at anti-Israel demonstrations. Context is crucial. Behaviors that are legitimate in some circumstances, for example, the waving of a Palestinian flag, may not be legitimate such as when intended to glorify acts of terrorism" Braverman added.
Braverman's letter came after Rishi Sunak promised that anyone in the UK who supported Hamas would be "held to account" in the aftermath of the Israeli attack. During a visit to Staffordshire on Tuesday, the prime minister stated that the government was ready to assist any British residents in need.
