The United States on Wednesday renewed its warning for American citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Saudi Arabia, citing "credible threats" to "western aviation interests" in the Kingdom.
"The US government has received indications of terrorist threats aimed at American and Western interests, including the targeting of transportation and civil aviation," the State Department said.
"There is credible information that terrorists have targeted Western aviation interests in Saudi Arabia," it said in the warning which replaced a less-than-month old existing alert.
The new alert was issued after Saudi Arabian authorities discovered that suspected members of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network were planning attacks against targets at Riyadh's King Khalid airport, officials said.
That discovery prompted British Airways to immediately suspend its flights to Saudi Arabia "as a matter of precaution." (Albawaba.com)
