Mr. Said Shuqom, Visa International General Manager for the Levant, presented H.E. Mr. Omar Maani, Mayor of Greater Amman Municipality, with a symbolic gift to decorate the halls of the Municipality at a press conference held on Thursday August 24th 2006,. The gift, a stenciled figure, filled with boxes bearing the Visa logo and a white poster board with small notes of gratitude to Jordan and all the achievements it has witnessed over the last 60 years, was the outcome of Visa International’s Independence Day "Signing Jordan" project involving the Jordanian community held on May 26th.

This simple yet valuable gift served as a clear token of Visa International’s genuine sense of belonging to Jordan. It also served to further solidify the integral role that Visa International plays within the Jordanian community.

This stencil was presented to the Mayor of the Greater Amman Municipality at a press conference during which Mr. Shuqom expressed Visa's genuine sense of belonging to the community. On the occasion he said, “This gift expresses Visa International’s genuine sense of love and loyalty to Jordan, and we at the organization see ourselves as active promoters of ongoing social and economic development and prosperity. This gift is our way of saying congratulations to Jordan on its 60th year of independence. On behalf of Visa, I express well wishes for the Kingdom, and I look forward to seeing it prosper further over the years to come.”

From his end, Mr. Maani thanked Visa International for the heart-warming gesture, and promised to place it in the Municipality Hall. He said, “Visa is not only a company that brings world-leading technology to the Jordanian financial sector, but it is also a devoted member of the Jordanian community. We at the Municipality share strong relations with Visa, and I thank them for their kind gesture. In my opinion, our strong bond with Visa will be the stepping stone for further joint initiatives in the future. After all, both entities keep Jordan very close to their hearts, and together I am sure, we will work to effectively towards a more prosperous Jordanian national economy.”

The Independence Day activity, organized by Visa, involved the Jordanian community at large. During the one day event held at Abdoun Mall in May, shoppers passing by the mall stopped at a Visa stand to place branded boxes in the three dimensional word "Jordan” and expressed their good wishes on a white poster board with small notes of gratitude to Jordan and all the achievements it has witnessed over the last 60 years. The project was a success with over 1000 people signing the Jordan poster board stating why they love Jordan.  Many tourists also signed the poster board. By the end of the day, this simple activity gave birth to a symbolic yet heart-warming token of the citizens’ love for Jordan.
