Violence continued for a third day in Egypt as Christians and Muslims in the town of Alexandria clashed with one another and police, forcing security forces to fire teargas at crowds.
Sunday's violence included machete wielding demonstrators and others throwing stones, according to Reuters.
The violence began on Friday in protest of the death of a 67-year old man on Friday who was stabbed and killed, while six others who had also been stabbed in Coptic churches.
On Saturday protesters took to the streets, claiming that police had not done enough to stop the attack. Crowds also attacked and burnt cars, and smashed shop windows.
At least 30 people were wounded, while a man in his forties was killed on Saturday after being clubbed on the head.
Some sources said that the man responsible for Friday's attack was mentally retarded, though others have questioned this claim. Authorities explained that he was taking revenge for insults to the Prophet Mohammad that had been published in European newspapers.
Between 5 and 10 percent of Egypt's population are Coptic Christians, while most of the remainder of Egypt's 73 million citizens are Muslim. Inter-community relations have generally been peaceful.
