Reports said that minor clashes erupted Monday between hundreds of Berber youths and security forces in Algeria's Kabylie region.
In the Berber region’s capital, Tizi Ouzo, youngsters hurled stones at gendarmerie barracks, according to Reuters.
Similar incidents flared in the small town of Draa Ben Kheda, about 30km west of Tizi Ouzou.
There were no reports of injuries.
Meanwhile, AFP reported Sunday that 11 people were killed and five were wounded in an attack near Algiers overnight on Saturday blamed on Islamic militants.
The attack occurred in Hameur Al Ain, near Tipaza, some 70 kilometers (45 miles) west of the capital.
The security services said Sunday in a statement the attack was carried out by "a group of terrorists," the term normally used to refer to armed Islamic extremists.
The statement, which gave no details of the victims or the circumstances of the massacre, said an "intense search operation was immediately launched by the security services against the perpetrators of this criminal attack.”
