ALBAWABA - As contradictory reports of the event surfaced from both sides, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared on Saturday that it had hit an Israeli F-16 fighter jet over central Iran.

The IRGC reported that the aircraft was struck in the early hours of the morning in central Iran in a statement released by its official media. The assertion is made in the midst of increased military activity in the area.

However, the Israeli military admitted that one of their planes had been hit by a surface-to-air missile during an operational flight, but they did not specify the kind of missile and claimed the aircraft was unharmed.

Whether the Israeli and Iranian claims are referring to the same occurrence is yet unknown.

Images of smoke in the sky were also shared by Iranian media, who claimed that another aircraft had been hit. Nevertheless, no information was given regarding the aircraft's identify or whether it belonged to the US or Israel.

The most recent allegations come after the IRGC previously said that a U.S. F-35 fighter plane had been struck and severely damaged in Iranian airspace.

A U.S. F-35 made an emergency landing at a U.S. airbase in the Middle East after suffering damage thought to be caused by Iranian fire, according to CNN, which cited people familiar with the situation.

With both sides giving different stories of continuing military battles, the event exacerbates already high tensions in the area.
