US President Barack Obama is releasing military aid to Egypt after the funds had been suspended for two years, AFP reported Tuesday.
The White House told AFP it's lifting the hold on F-16 fighter jets, tanks and other military supplies for the country, after concerns over extremist presence from Libya and Sinai spilling over to the rest of the region.
The aid, however, is in the "interest of national security" for the US, AFP reported, maintaining a distance from Egypt as the country still hasn't achieved democracy.
The funds were suspended in 2013 when democratically elected President Mohammed Morsi was overthrown by the military.
