United States President George W. Bush has welcomed the resumption of the UN-led peace talks on Cyprus and expressed hope they would lead to a solution that would strengthen regional peace and stability.

Addressing a special ceremony to mark Greece's national day, Bush praised Athens' role and contribution to the fight against terrorism and said Washington is encouraged by the rapprochement between Greece and Turkey.

"We welcome the resumption of diplomatic talks on Cyprus and hope that they will lead to a final settlement that strengthens regional peace and stability," Bush said at the White House ceremony, according to a Cyprus News Agency Tuesday report. (Albawaba.com)
