Washington is stepping up efforts to find evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq by offering former scientists immunity from prosecution, the Financial Times reported Thursday, citing high-level American officials.

The move comes as the US and British governments are preparing for a long-awaited classified report, to be delivered to the CIA, by a US-led weapons inspection team, probably in the next two weeks.

The paper, citing an unidentified top Bush administration official, said the report was not expected to prove Sadddam's toppled regime had chemical, biological or nuclear weapons, but it would show Saddam had the "capability and the intention to develop them". (Albawaba.com)
