ALBAWABA - The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement that a US warship patrolling the Red Sea intercepted multiple attack drones launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen on Thursday.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, CENTCOM said: "USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116) shot down multiple one-way attack drones launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. The drones were shot down while the U.S. warship was on patrol in the Red Sea. The ship and crew sustained no damage or injury".
Hudner is part of the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group but is operating separately from the strike group. USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Since the start of the latest Israeli war on Gaza, the Houthis have launched multiple drone attacks on U.S. and Israeli targets as a response to the latest escalation in the area.
On November 19, Admiral Yahya Sare'e announced that all Israeli-operated and owned ships are now a legitimate target for the Houthis.
In the statement, Admiral Sare'e said: "Based on religious, national and moral responsibility, and in view of the brutal Israeli-American aggression that the Gaza Strip is being subjected to, including daily massacres and genocide, and in response to the demands of our Yemeni people and the demands of free peoples, and to provide relief to our oppressed people in Gaza".
"We will continue to carry out military operations until the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank stops," he added in another statement.
The Houthis said they seized the Galaxy Leader earlier in November, an Israel-linked cargo vessel and its 25 international crew, at the entrance to the Red Sea. Israel’s military said the seizure was a "very grave incident of global consequence," and a US military official said it was "a flagrant violation of international law", Arab News reported.
Hamas operation against Israel
Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.
Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.
In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
As of the latest statistics by the media office in Gaza, has risen to 14,532, including over 6,000 children and 4,000 women. The office put the number of injuries at more than 35,000, saying more than 75% of them are children and women.
