The first group of US military experts arrived Sunday at a military base in southern Hungary to make preparations for training Iraqi opposition members.

The training officers, logistical experts and security guards will prepare the infrastructure and installations at the military base in Taszar, some 200 km southeast of Budapest. Training will be conducted from late January or early February, Istvan Bocskai, the Hungarian Defense Ministry deputy communications director, told the state-run news agency, MTI.

According to Bocskai, additional US military personnel will arrive at Taszar over the coming days.

Meanwhile, the American newspaper Boston Globe reported Sunday that commandos of the US special forces and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) have been operating in Iraq for at least four months in preparation for a possible US invasion.

The report added that commandos are in Iraq to identify rocket launch pads, mine fields, oil fields and Iraqi air defense targets in the so-called no-fly zones.

Also under observation are possible sites of activity in suspected Iraqi weapons programs. Working with the 100 US commandos and 50 CIA specialists are a small number of Britons and Australians, the report said. (Albawaba.com)
