US drone strikes in Afghanistan have killed at least seven suspected militants, including two commanders, local officials said Tuesday.
Ataullah Khogiani, spokesman for the governor of central Wardak province, said: “Early reports show a US drone has targeted the militants in Daimirdad district, killing a prominent commander. But we don’t have any information about identity of the remaining militants.”
He added that another strike elsewhere in the province killed three more militants, including a commander.
He claimed there were no civilian causalities.
The number of US drone strikes in Afghanistan has increased since foreign combat troops withdrew from Afghanistan at the end of 2014.
They have mainly focused on the Taliban and new groupings of fighters claiming loyalty to the Syria-based militant group Daesh.
