The US Pentagon has declared a state of high alert after a series of plane crash and car bombs attacks on major US buildings.
All state buildings have been evacuated after the White House, the Capitol Hill, the Pentagon, the State Department and the World Trade Center in New York came under attacks described by President George Bush as “terrorist.”
In a brief statement in Louisiana, President George Bush vowed to hunt and punish those behind the attacks, in which thousands have benn killed and injured.
Both of the twin towers of the World Trade Centers collapsed after two planes smashed into it.
Reuters reported that the two planes had been hijacked from Boston.
Reports said 156 people were on board both aircraft.
The attack on the State Department was caused by a booby-trapped car.
Another explosion was reported in Chicago, Sears Tower was evacuated, but the report was not confirmed.
The White House and the Capitol Hell caught fire also in explosions.
A third plane attacked the Pentagon and caused part of the building to collapse, and a car bomb exploded outside its campus.
The fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania, with all its 45 passengers killed.
All airports and borders have been closed, and a state of panic prevailed in the country.
No party has claimed responsibilty, but an unconfirmed statement by the Japanese Red Army communist movement spoke to Al Jazeera satellite channel and a weekly in Amman claiming it has carried out the attacks in revenge for the Japanese victims in the World War II.
The world countries and Palestinian movements denounced the attacks, including palestinian President Yaser Arafat – Albawaba.com
