ALBAWABA- In a recent update provided by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), several significant events unfolded in the Red Sea region.
according to the statement, at around 5:00 a.m. (Sanaa time), CENTCOM forces successfully engaged and shot down a UAV over the Gulf of Aden, resulting in no injuries or damage reported.
Subsequently, at approximately 10:30 a.m., forces conducted strikes and destroyed an Iranian-backed Houthi explosive uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) in the Red Sea.
This action was taken in response to the USV posing an imminent threat to merchant vessels and US Navy ships in the area. Despite significant secondary explosions, no injuries or damage occurred.
Later, at about 12:45 p.m., two anti-ship ballistic missiles were launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen towards the M/V Koi in the Red Sea.
The missiles impacted in the water, narrowly missing the ship, a Liberian-flagged, Bermuda-owned cargo vessel. No injuries or damage were reported to the M/V Koi or coalition ships in the vicinity.
The statement adds that these actions by CENTCOM aim to safeguard freedom of navigation and enhance security in international waters for both US Navy vessels and merchant ships.
