ALBAWABA - US fighter jets launched 16 airstrikes on Yemen on Saturday evening, targeting the governorates of Saada and Sanaa, Al Jazeera reported.

The United States has been conducting heavy airstrikes for the past couple of days on areas under the control of the Houthis group.

Media outlets affiliated with the Yemeni group reported that US aircraft carried out three airstrikes targeting an area near Mount Nabi Shu'ayb, in the Bani Matar district, west of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a.

It also said that the "American aggression" targeted the eastern city of Saada with three other raids, and the Al Salem district in the same governorate with four raids, without providing details on whether there were any casualties.

Tension between the US and Houthis:

Tension has escalated in the past week between the Ansar Allah group and the US. The Yemeni group announced targeting a United States naval vessel in the Red Sea, calling it "retaliation" for Washington's strikes on Yemen.

The US attacked the Yemeni rebels after the group announced it would resume targeting Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea.

The Houthis announced the resumption of attacks in the Res Sea following the collapse of the Gaza ceasefire deal and Israel's resumption of attacks on the strip on March 19.
