An official institute of the United States military has revealed that some of Israel’s atomic bombs are powerful hydrogen bombs.

Israel has in its arsenal over 400 nuclear weapons, some of them are hydrogen bombs. This information was disclosed in an article published in an official web site of the US Air Force, the USAF Counter-Proliferation Center.

According to the findings, Israel is the fifth largest nuclear superpower in the world.

This report marks the first time a body of the US military establishment, which operates from within a military base, claims that Israel also has hydrogen bombs. The number of nuclear warheads the report currently indicates is double the amount of previous assessments regarding the size of the Israeli nuclear arsenal.

The article, publicized, as aforesaid, in the internet site of the institute, was written by Warner D. Farr, a retired Colonel, and a doctor by profession, who served in various command positions in the American military and also served in the Vietnam war and in American bases throughout Europe.

The article describes the history of the Israeli nuclear weapons program development, and claims its existence is one of the factors in the continuation of US military assistance to Israel.

According to the document, in the year 1967, Israel already had 15 atomic bombs in its arsenal. In 1976, the amount stood on 15-20 bombs and in 1980 jumped to 200. According to Farr, in 1997, Israel had over 400 nuclear and hydrogen weapons.

A Hydrogen bomb is a “boosted” nuclear bomb, with 100 to 1,000 stronger power than a regular nuclear bomb. This bomb produces immense heat and a shock wave that affects an extensive area, and despite this, it produces a smaller amount of fallout and radioactive contamination. The hydrogen bombs are considered to be a sophisticated, expensive and complicated weapon to develop.

Up till now, it was known that they were in the possession of the United States, Russia, Britain, France and China. (Albawaba.com)
