United Nations special envoy Alvaro de Soto said in Nicosia Tuesday that Cypriot negotiations had reached a deadlock.
The statement came at the end of the 44th round of discussions, which took place Tuesday between Cypriot president Glafkos Klerides and chief of Turkish Cypriots Rauf Denktas.
UN secretary general Kofi Annan, who visited Cyprus last May, had hoped that a final solution to the Cypriot problem would be at hand by May 7, de Soto said in a press statement Tuesday afternoon, according to KUNA.
He added that he would return to Cyprus on July 16 to join another round of negotiations between Klerides and Denktas after his return to New York to submit his report to Kofi Annan regarding the talks. (Albawaba.com)
