The UNESCO International Heritage Center director, Francisco Bandaren described the Historical Cairo Salvation Project as an immense enterprise, denying that there are faults in the revamping works, according to the Cairo-based Al Gomhuria Arabic daily.
The international body official said at a press conference that the objections made by some Egyptian experts against the project have led to work delay and given the world a negative impression about the efforts made in this field.
Bandaren called for sharing ideas and joining efforts away from pointing a finger of baseless accusations to the parties involved in the vital project.
“Egypt,” he said, “is one of the world’s most important and richest countries in cultural heritage.”
“Although Egypt has two thirds of the world’s archeological heritage, it registered only five sites with the International Heritage Center,” said the UNESCO official adding that 18 new sites would be registered soon --Albawaba.com
