Dubai Customs Six-a-side Football Tournament ends successfully
Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (DCAA), Dubai Customs Ramadan Six-a-side Football tournament ended yesterday evening on Monday, September 7th, 2009. The Tournament that is organized for the Department's employees during the holy month of Ramadan took place at Salahuddin Gymnasium and is aimed at reinforcing social ties among all employees and cultivating sports culture.
H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Dubai Customs Director General headed the audience along with a number of VIP dignitaries and Dubai Customs Executive Directors.
The closing ceremony of the tournament started with the UAE national anthem and a recitation of some of the holy Quran verses followed by showing a video on the Tournament and some scenes from the matches and a spectacular laser show.
The ceremony was attended by H.E. Ibraheem Abdul Malek, General Authority of Youth and Sport Welfare Director General, Doctor Ahmed Sad Al Sharif, Dubai Sports Council Director General, Dean Doctor Mohammed Ahmed Bin Fahed, Al Wasel Club Head of Board, Mr. Mohammed Al Muallem Senior Vice President and Managing Director DP World in the UAE and Mr. Abdulla Bin Khediya, Head of Cargo Service Unit at Dubai Cargo Village.
H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Dubai Customs Director General expressed his appreciation to HH Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for sponsoring the closing ceremony and supporting the Tournament. He said that his support to cultural, artistic, sports and social activities urge the youth to give more. It also helps to invest their energies and talents with the great deal of benefit for them and for the UAE as a whole.
H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed added:" Inline with reinforcing social and humanitarian relations among employees, Dubai Customs organizes for this sports event for its employees during the holy month of Ramadan in order to increase kind feelings among them and their managers. Different cadres participated in the Tournament which eventually will increase career satisfaction and boost employees' productivity in general."
The finale took place yesterday between the Director General Team and Airport Terminal 3 B Team, both teams excelled in performance that met the prestigious settings of the closing ceremony yesterday as they tied 1-1. However, the finale ended with a 5-3 win for the Director General Team after penalty shootouts that occurred during the overtime period.
Large number of people attended the finale yesterday amidst the heavy cheers for both teams. During the interval, the K9 Dogs Unit blew the audience's minds when displayed modern techniques of detecting narcotics, weaponry and prohibited goods.
At the end of the ceremony, H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed along with Mr. Yousef Al Sahlawi, Executive Director of Legislations and Policies Division and H.E. Sultan Al Jokar, Advisor to the DC Director General awarded the Tournament's referees, the winning team, evaluation committee, the organizing committee represented by Mr. Mohammed Faraj Abdulla, main sponsors, best goalkeeper, best player, player with the most scored goals and the best high sports team were all awarded.
Moreover, Director General Team who won the Tournament were handed the trophy and gold medals. As for the second place, that is Airport Terminal 3 B received silver medals. Whereas Passengers Operations Department at the Airport Terminal 3 A Team won bronze medals for winning third place.
H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed expressed his satisfaction towards the well-organized and set Tournament. He said that it achieved its goals which are fostering social and humanitarian ties among the Department's employees especially during the holy month of Ramadan and minimizing psychological restrictions among them and their line managers since different cadres participated in the Tournament among which are the Executive Directors.
Due to the huge success of the Tournament, H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed stated that this Tournament will be an annual event to be held during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Tournament which kicked off on the third day of Ramadan witnessed throughout the past couple of weeks good competition among employees and managers. 24 teams took part in it who represent different departments at Dubai Customs and customs centers in Dubai; for example, Hatta Inspection Center, Alhamereyh Inspection Center, Jebel Ali, Passengers Operations Department at Dubai Int'l Airport, Air Cargo Inspection Center and others. The Tournament that was largely attended added a sense of joy and satisfaction to the employees in this holy month.
