The UN Security Council will meet today to discuss the ongoing crisis in Gaza, according to Agence France Presse.
The meeting was called at the request of Turkey and Jordan and is set to take place at three p.m. Friday.
More than 260 Palestinians have been killed since Israeli airstrikes began under Operation Protective Edge, and nearly 1,500 have been wounded, according to Ma'an News Agency.
On Friday alone, more than 30 Palestinians were killed from strikes, reported Ma'an.
Ceasefire efforts have been ongoing since Wednesday this week, after Israel allegedly agreed to a ceasefire deal brokered by Egypt, but in which Hamas was not included in the discussions of the deal. Rocket and strike exchanges have thus continued, and Israel launched a ground offensive on Gaza Thursday as well.
The Vatican, as well as many regional actors, have called for an immediate ceasefire.
Agence France Presse reported Friday and Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas has also called for Hamas to immediately accept a second version of the Egyptian ceasefire deal during his meeting with Turkey's leadership in Ankara Friday.
"Israel accepted the ceasefire proposal. We (the Palestinians) must also accept it so that we can put the Israeli side at unease," Abbas said during a news conference in Turkey, according to the AFP report.
