A United Nations human rights expert on freedom of expression has postponed a planned visit to an indefinite date at the request of the Iranian government, Iranian and UN officials said Tuesday.

A UN spokesman in Geneva said Ambeyi Ligabo, the UN special rapporteur, and the Iranian authorities were now discussing a visit before the end of the year.

A source within the Iranian foreign ministry earlier told IRNA that the visit had to be postponed because of scheduling problems.

Ligabo was set to have arrived on Thursday and remain until July 27.

IRNA quoted an "informed source" in the foreign ministry as saying that "given the short notice, we were not able to arrange all the meetings." (Albawaba.com)
