ALBAWABA- The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced that the current round of negotiations in Oman regarding the detainees' files is progressing in a positive and constructive atmosphere.
The parties have reached an understanding on procedures to release detainees related to the conflict, including the prominent political figure Mohammed Qahtan, who was detained in 2014 following the Houthis' takeover of Sana'a.
Grundberg emphasized the responsibility of completing negotiations to release all detainees by the all-for-all principle, highlighting that these negotiations are part of international efforts to support the parties in implementing their obligations under the Stockholm Agreement.
The Omani-mediated talks between the Yemeni parties in Muscat, which began two days ago, come after more than two years of unofficial truce between the warring parties in Yemen and the Saudi-led coalition.
Both the Houthis and the internationally recognized government blame each other for the humanitarian and security deterioration in Yemen, where two-thirds of the population is in dire need of humanitarian aid.
This crisis is exacerbated by unpaid salaries in Houthi-controlled areas, the depreciation of the Yemeni rial, and its divided value between Sana'a and Aden, with the currency in Aden worth three times less than in Sana'a, where the central bank was relocated by the internationally recognized government to Aden.
Prior to this round of negotiations, the Houthis seized four Yemenia Airlines planes and imposed strict actions against the Saudi-backed Yemeni government in exile. This came after the government took measures against banks and money transfer agencies in Sana'a.
Oman sponsors the Yemen-Yemeni talks along with the UN special envoy, while also mediating Houthi-Saudi negotiations.
The Houthis have asserted that if a solution is not reached, they will resort to tough measures against Saudi Arabia and the UAE to compel serious negotiations, lift the blockade, and address key issues with Saudi and UAE officials, who support the Yemeni government in exile.
