The United Nations nuclear watchdog said Tuesday that an October 31 deadline given to Iran to clear up allegations that it is seeking to develop nuclear weapons is firm.

Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mohammed ElBaradei is expected to travel to Tehran on Wednesday at the invitation of the Islamic Republic which has indicated that it may need more time to answer all of the IAEA's questions.

"There are two phases to our work," IAEA spokeswoman Melissa Fleming said.

"The first phase involves Iran providing all the information to us on unresolved questions no later than October 31," she said.

The IAEA spokeswoman said the second phase entailed verification of the information provided by Tehran. (Albawaba.com)
