Customs officers have seized heroin worth 270 million dollars from a family arriving at Dubai International Airport, some of which had been hidden in a child's pram, reported Gulf News.
Director of the security and customs inspection department, Butti Al Dhafri, said that 9.7 kilos of the drug were found in the luggage of a man in his 40s accompanied by his wife and three-year-old daughter.
Al Dhafri said the drugs had been concealed in hidden pockets in the suitcases and in the pram, added the paper.
The man admitted the luggage was his, but his wife was apparently unaware he was smuggling drugs, Al Dhafri said.
"This is the third major drug seizure in the 18 months since Dubai Customs was assigned the responsibility of inspections at the airport and seaports," Al Dhafri said.
The first involved 10.8 kilos of heroin which were confiscated at Port Rashid and the second was three months ago when 3.5 kilos of heroin were found hidden in two juice containers, said the paper - Albawaba.com
