The General Secretariat of UAE Municipalities on Monday stressed that livestock farms, meat and poultry factories and slaughterhouses in the country are subject to strict health control by food control authorities and municipal laboratories, denying Saudi claims that the meat is contaminated, reported the Gulf Daily News.
Secretariat Secretary-General Jassim Darwish said a Saudi team visited UAE livestock farms and slaughterhouses from April 7 to 11 at the request of the Saudi ministry of commerce.
The team visited cattle and sheep farms and meat factories in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah and Jebel Ali.
"The visit comes within the framework of strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and other food control authorities in Saudi Arabia in this vital field, to protect health of consumers in the two countries," Darwish said.
He said that the UAE is keen on safety of meat and poultry being imported into the country.
"We import meat and poultry from almost the same countries which Saudi Arabia deals with, whether for local consumption or for export in the form of meat products," he said – Albawaba.com
