UAE Reiterates Support for Anti-Terror Campaign

The United Arab of Emirates (UAE) reiterated Tuesday its support for international campaign to wipe out terrorism, but voiced sympathy for the Afghan people.  

The UAE affirmed the need for removing factors behind the phenomenon and called for an end to Israel's "terrorism" against the Palestinians that would bring the peace back to the region in general and Palestine in particular. 

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces called also for a serious international effort to find a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause. 

According to the Gulf News, Sheikh Khalifa told the Commander of US Central Forces General Tommy Franks, who is currently visiting the country that the UAE was closely following the latest international events. 

UAE affirmed its support for international efforts to combat terrorism on different occasions. 

Its cabinet said in an official statement released during the first week of October that the current military operations against the centers of international terrorism enjoy broad global support. 

"At the same time, the UAE renews its support for, and sympathy with, the Afghan people, as well as affirming its backing for international efforts aimed at easing their plight," it added.  

"Innocent civilians should not be made to suffer losses (in lives and property)," the statement said. 

The talks, attended by Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defense Minister General Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, covered ways of enhancing relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, said the Dubai-based paper.
