The UAE has pledged to help Lebanon prepare for the 2002 Arab summit, said Lebanese Culture Minister Ghassan Salameh.
The minister’s remarks came upon departure from Abu Dhabi, where he held talks on senior Emirati officials on various issues, reported the Daily Star newspaer.
Salameh said his meeting with Crown Prince Khalifah bin Zayed al-Nahyan and the UAE’s culture and information minister, Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan, focused on “supporting Lebanon in its logistical preparation for the Arab Summit.”
“I’m happy to inform the general public that the emirate has decided to help Lebanon not only by relinquishing its position to host the summit, but also by allowing us the opportunity to gather Arab leaders here,” Salameh told reporters at Beirut International Airport.
Salameh, who has also secured help for the summit from the Kuwaiti government in July, did not provide further details on the extent and the nature of the UAE assistance package, nor the estimated costs hosting the summit could incur, said the paper – Albawaba.com
