UAE nationals will replace 400 expatriate teachers in government schools by July 15 as part of the ministry of education's five-year emiratization plan, reported the Gulf News on Tuesday.
The ministry says it has received 1,437 applications.
"This is the first year of the implementation of the Ministry of Education's five-year expatriate teacher replacement process. The majority of applicants are female graduates, with a high number from Al Ain and Abu Dhabi,” a ministry official told the paper.
"We will first start replacing expatriate teachers who hold Higher Secondary School Certificates and Diplomas. Teachers who hold a university degree will only be replaced following an assessment of their teaching records."
The official said the loss of the expatriate teachers was unfortunate, but UAE nationals must take priority.
"We do have to cater to the bulk of national applicants awaiting recruitment in government schools as teachers. It is their right to get employment," he said – Albawaba.com
