An Emirati woman charged with spying for Lebanon's Hezbollah has been given a ten-year jail sentence.
A UAE citizen of Lebanese origin, was found guilty of espionage conducted by exploiting the sensitive position held by her prominent Emirati husband. The presiding judge of the State Security Chamber at the Federal Supreme Court ruled that she accessed confidential information about government VIPS, and other details, and passed them on to Hezbollah's intelligence agency, Falah Al Hajiri.
The court verdict has also been passed on other individuals for activities ranging from spying to using phone covers featuring logos from groups deemed "terror" organizations.
Over the last few months the UAE and other gulf states have deported and in some cases jailed individuals over alleged ties to Hezbollah.
