The UAE's Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is studying a proposal to grant a two-month grace period to all expatriates wishing to transfer their sponsorship before new regulations restricting the facility to certain categories take effect, ministry sources were quoted in press reports as saying.
They told the Khaleej Times that the interior ministry proposal would be discussed at a meeting next week. It suggests that workers in certain job categories be given the chance to transfer their sponsorship during November and December.
The cabinet has excluded nine job categories from a ban on the transfer of sponsorship, while those included must leave the UAE for at least six months if their visas are cancelled.
Only those exempted will be entitled to remain in the country and go on with procedures to change their employers.
The exempted categories include engineers; doctors, pharmacists and nurses; university and college professors; experts, legal advisers and qualified economists; computer programmers and system analysts. All must be holders of university degrees, according to the new regulations - Albawaba.com
