Arab nursery schools in the UAE are lagging behind non-Arab nurseries in terms of standards and service and need to improve, says an official at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the Gulf News reported.

Moza Saif Al Amri, First Social Specialist at the Child Nursery Section at the ministry's Department of Family and Child Care, was quoted by the daily as saying “inspections at Arab nursery schools had revealed they were generally not as clean or well-organied as non-Arab ones and a number were also overcrowded.”

Al Amri noted that the ministry is urging Arab nursery schools to improve their standards for the benefit of the young children who attend them.

"Arab nurseries need to improve and show more concern about the quality of the services provided. We have also noticed that a large number of such nurseries are accommodating a large number of children in one classroom. The minimum space given for each child should not be less than one meter, but many Arab nurseries are not complying with this rule, it added.

"Most Non-Arab nurseries, however, showed their compliance with the ministry's rules and regulations and we are very satisfied with the level and the services provided by them.

According to the latest ministry statistics, there are 89 nursery schools in the UAE, 68.6 per cent of which are for non-Arab children, the report said – Albawaba.com
