ALBAWABA- The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the successful completion of a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, involving 180 prisoners, following effective mediation efforts by the UAE.
This marks the fifth successful mediation by the UAE this year, reflecting its strong partnership with both countries and its trusted role as a mediator.
The ministry expressed gratitude to the governments of Russia and Ukraine for their cooperation, which led to this achievement.
Emphasizing continued support for peaceful resolutions, the UAE highlighted the importance of dialogue, de-escalation, and diplomacy in resolving the conflict and mitigating humanitarian impacts.
Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the UAE has maintained positive neutrality, working towards a political and diplomatic solution.
In June 2023, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reaffirmed his country's readiness to contribute to resolving the conflict during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg.
