The UAE-Bahrain Higher Joint Committee held its first meeting Sunday under the presidency of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Bahrain's Foreign Minister, who is currently leading his country's delegation to neighboring Gulf state.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who received the visiting minister, was quoted by Gulf News as saying that the committee meeting mirrored the eagerness of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Emir of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to boost bilateral relations and cooperation in order to serve interests of the two peoples.
He said the agenda dealt with important issues relating to the welfare of citizens in both countries.
"Success of cooperation between the UAE and Bahrain is also boosting progress of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) at large and reinforcing GCC capability to address regional and global challenges.
On his part, the Bahraini official said the meeting of the committee laid down a strong block in the building of the UAE-Bahraini relations.
"We hope the committee will make remarkable achievements that help the two countries address regional and global challenges," he said.
Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Mohammed signed the minutes of the first meeting of the joint committee.
Later a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was sealed between UAE and Bahraini ministries of education and youth, said the report.
Last year, the UAE ratified an agreement that provided for citizens of the two countries to travel between the two states using only the identity card – Albawaba.com
