ALBAWABA – Two American service members were killed and a third is missing following Iranian assaults on U.S. forces in Jordan, the U.S. military said Saturday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.

The injuries were caused when U.S. soldiers were conducting operations to counter Friday’s Iranian missile and drone strikes, CENTCOM said. The command also said four other military members were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan for medical treatment and released.

"Several other U.S. troops sustained minor injuries in the incident and have returned to active duty, the statement said.

The military said it will not publicize the identities of those killed or offer further details until at least 24 hours after their families have been formally notified.

The statement comes a day after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had fired missiles and drones at U.S. fighter jets and aerial refueling capabilities operating in Jordan.

The Jordanian Armed Forces intercepted and destroyed three Iranian missiles that entered the kingdom’s airspace on Friday, and prevented them from reaching their intended objectives, the military announced on Friday.

Iran has frequently said it has targeted U.S. military facilities in Jordan in recent days, raising tensions in the area.
