Two Swedish nationals held hostage in Syria have been freed through Palestinian and Jordanian negotiations Saturday, AFP reports.
Sweden’s foreign ministry thanked both Palestine and Jordan for their roles in releasing the hostages.
“A special thanks to Palestine and President Abbas personally who engaged in a decisive way, as well as to the Jordanian authorities,” Foreign Minister Margot Wallstroem said in a statement.
The two Swedish men had been kidnapped by Nusra Front and held close to the Jordanian border, according to the Palestinian ambassador to Sweden, Hala Husni Fariz.
