Two men who infiltrated into Israel from Lebanon in two separate incidents over the weekend were caught and interrogated by the Israeli Shin Bet security service. One of them has already been returned to Lebanon, according to Haaretz daily.
On Friday night, sentries at an Israeli post saw a figure crossing the border fence from Lebanon. At the same time, the electronic fence emitted a warning signal. Israeli troops quickly arrived at the site and captured the man several meters from the fence. The man, a civilian, told interrogators that he had come to Israel to look for work and was carrying nothing but a small knapsack. The Israeli army returned him to Lebanon on Saturday night.
Later, at around noon on Saturday, the electronic border fence emitted yet another warning signal. Israeli troops again came to the site, and this time caught an individual as he was still climbing the fence. This time, the infiltrator was a Lebanese soldier. However, even though he was dressed in uniform, he was unarmed and was interrogated.
In both cases, the Israeli army was put on alert for some time after the incident, until the soldiers had ascertained that the infiltrators were acting alone. Residents of the nearby town of Metula were confined to their houses until this had been determined.
On Saturday night, the Israeli army said that the entry of the two infiltrators in a span of 24 hours is evidence that the Lebanese army is not exercising control over the border. (Albawaba.com)
