An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted northwestern Turkish city of Duzce early Sunday, leaving two people injured but without causing damage, the Anatolia news agency reported.

When the tremor hit, the two victims panicked and jumped out of their windows and are suffering from broken limbs.

The Istanbul-based seismological institute said the quake struck at 3:41 am 2441 GMT with its epicenter at Yigilca, some 30 kilometers northeast of Duzce.

Hundreds of residents -- who were badly hit by a massive quake which struck the city in November 1999 killing around 1,000 people, chose to spend the rest of the night outside.

Criss-crossed by seismologic faultiness, Turkey is frequently rocked by earthquakes -- ISTANBUL, Aug 26 (AFP)
