Two people died when a 160-member group attempted last week to escape the Tindouf camps, stronghold of the Polisario in south-western Algeria, to return to Morocco, sources close to the victims families said.
The 158 survivors were caught and incarcerated by the military security in Tindouf, according to Maghreb Arabe Presse Friday.
Following the arrest of the group members, several people sequestered in the Polisario-controlled camps in Tindouf circulated leaflets expressing support of the framework agreement, brokered by the UN Secretary General's personal envoy for the Sahara, James Baker, and denouncing these arrests as well as the Sahara partition scheme presented by Algeria.
