Two people have been arrested at a computer reseller firm in UAE’s Sharjah, and large quantities of illegal software have been seized, according to the Business Software Alliance (BSA).
The same reseller was subjected to two previous intellectual property rights enforcement by the Ministry of Information and Culture, said BSA in a statement, cited by the Gulf News.
The action, according to BSA, is the first in which arrests were made on the spot during a piracy raid. "There is a clear regional movement towards enforcement of copyright legislation. Benefits associated with this legislation are clearly understood by regional governments and technology markets," said Jawad Redha, BSA Middle East regional director.
"Industries are already seeing new growth and potential being unlocked by the protection now being offered to local developers of software and content as well as the attraction of new foreign investments and expertise to the regional technology industry," he added.
Enforcement action in the UAE and other key Middle East regional markets has recently been stepped up dramatically.
“This is the fourth major anti-piracy enforcement action to have taken place in the UAE in the last month,” he told the paper.
