Officials have reported twin car bomb attacks in a Baghdad suburb, according to Associated Press.

Medical officials have confirmed at least nine people were killed in the attack, while 20 others were injured.

Two cars were rigged with explosives and placed in a Shiite-dominated areas in the Husseiniyah district of northeastern Baghdad.

Earlier this month Iraqi intelligence dismantled a Daesh cell plotting 52 separate bomb attacks.

Bomb attacks are a frequent occurrence in Iraq, especially with the rise of Daesh, who took control of large swathes of the country last summer.
