Twenty20 Ideal Grand Finale to Chapal Cup

Pakistan and Australia Finish Enthralling Series at Dubai International Cricket Stadium

Pakistan and Australia will round off an action-packed Chapal Cup with a one-off Twenty20 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium at Dubai Sports City on Thursday, 7 May.

It will be a party atmosphere with music and entertainment to create the perfect finale following the five match one-day series, which Australia won by three matches to two.

More than 40,000 spectators watched the first two ODIs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, and a capacity crowd is expected for the final match.

“Twenty20 cricket is all about entertaining the crowd and creating a tremendous party atmosphere,” said U. Balasubramaniam, CEO, Dubai Sports City. “The Dubai International Cricket Stadium will become a cauldron of noise on Thursday, and we hope that many people new to cricket join us for the event.”

The UAE has been at the centre of the international cricketing world over the last month, and officials at Dubai Sports City are already in discussions with the governing bodies of the test playing nations about bringing more international matches to the venue.

With the most expensive seats already sold out, a capacity crowd is expected for Thursday evening’s game, and supporters are being urged to arrive as early as possible. Dance artists and cheerleaders will be part of the pre-match entertainment which will also incorporate a formal opening ceremony for the stadium ahead of the 8pm match start.

“The success of the Chapal Cup has shown that Dubai Sports City has in place the infrastructure and expertise to host international matches. We are now aiming to sign agreements to create our own tournament in the near future,” added Balasubramaniam.
