Turkish Prime Minister Abdullah Gul flew to Egypt Sunday to push for a peaceful solution to the Iraq crisis.
"Everybody in this region will see the damage of war. So everybody has a great responsibility. We will endeavour to prevent this war up until the end," Turkish state-run Anatolian news agency quoted Gul as saying after the meeting with President Mubarak.
Gul met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Saturday to discuss what he called "concrete steps" to avoid a war in Iraq. "We still believe that diplomatic channels have not been exhausted. There are lots of things to be done," Gul told reporters before departing for Egypt Sunday. "What we are doing is active diplomacy for peace."
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher said ahead of the talks that Iraq would be among the top items on the agenda. He said the two sides would also discuss the situation in the Palestinian areas and bilateral affairs.
On Monday, Gul is due to meet King Abdullah of Jordan in Amman before returning to Ankara. He will make a separate visit to Saudi Arabia later this month. (Albawaba.com)
