Syrian President Bashar Assad is "serious" about renewing peace talks with Israel, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan told Israel's ambassador to Ankara, Pini Avivi, in a meeting Thursday to discuss the Syrian leader's visit earlier this week to Turkey.
"Syrian President Bashar Assad said he is serious in his intention to renew peace talks with Israel, and intends taking all the necessary steps to reach a peace agreement in the Middle East," Erdogan told Avivi, according to Haaretz.
Erdogan also offered to mediate between Israel and Syria.
For his part, al-Assad received at his residence in Istanbul, on Thursday, leading Turkish media men with the attendance of Foreign Minister, Farouk a Shara.
The Syrian President gave an overall review about his talks in Turkey, SANA reported. Earlier, President al-Assad met with Turkish businessmen.
"Syria is serious in tackling hindrances, bureaucracy and negative aspects," al-Assad said, expressing his hope that the economic relations will witness a big development to the benefit of the Syrian and Turkish interests. (Albawaba.com)
