Turkish State Minister Rustu Kazim Yucelen, who is responsible for human rights issues, said on Wednesday that there is a decrease in the number of human rights violations in the country and pledges to decrease violations to below the world average by the end of 2001, according to Turkish Daily News on Thursday.
Yucelen said the reconstruction of the Human Rights Coordination Board is now complete following Turkey's endorsement of its National Program to the European Union in late March.
Turkey has made a pledge to the EU to improve its bad human rights record in the program.
International human rights watchdogs have bitterly criticized the country’s human rights record, especially regarding females taken into custody.
