A constitutional court ruled Wednesday that Turkey’s recent Twitter ban violated freedom of expression and individual rights, according to Reuters.
The ban, which sparked outrage, was ordered by Prime Minister Erdogan and quickly circumvented by the Turkish people.
The court sent the verdict to Turkey’s telecom authority and the Transport Ministry. It is unclear if the ruling will lead to the reversal of the ban, Reuters reports.
“If there is anyone who believes there is rule of law and human rights in this country, TIB must execute the court verdict and life the ban on Twitter,” Kerem Altiparmak, a prominent academic, tweeted.
Erdogan’s AK Party recently won municipal elections held Sunday.
