Turkey blocked YouTube on Thursday after an audio recording was posted detailing possible military operations in Syria, Reuters reported.

The audio recording allegedly describes a conversation between Turkey's intelligence chief, foreign minister, and deputy head of the armed forces discussing potential military campaigns inside Syria.

Turkey's ban on YouTube comes just one week after Ankara blocked access to the popular social networking site Twitter

Members within the Turkish government have criticized Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his handling of social media sites.

Last week Turkish President Abdullah Gul publicly stated that banning social media sites was unnacceptable.

“A complete ban on social media platforms cannot be approved," he said, adding that it is not "technically possible to totally block access to platforms used all over the world."
